Officials with Hopkinsville’s Alhambra Theatre announced this week the return of “Jazz On Stage,” bringing to life a vibrant jazz club for three unforgettable shows, and two show times per event.

An internationally renowned vibraphonist, pianist, composer and arranger with touring and performance experience in more than 60 countries, Christian Tamburr leads the critically acclaimed Christian Tamburr Quintet.

He has been responsible for the opening of multiple headline production shows around the world, and in the past has collaborated with the Pennyroyal Arts Council and handpicked top-tier jazz artists for “Jazz On Stage.”

He kicks off the season 6 PM and 8 PM Thursday, October 24, with “The First Time Ever I Heard Your Voice,” a tribute to the incredible music of Roberta Flack and Al Jarreau.

This will also feature the talents of Clint Holmes, Niki Haris, Keith Ganz and Tamburr Trio. The 6-piece band, including male and female vocals, guitar, keys, bass, and drums, will bring hits to life, such as Flack’s “Killing Me Softly,” “The Closer I Get to You,” and “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” alongside Jarreau’s joyful “Roof Garden,” “Get Your Boogie Down,” and “After All.”

Installment No. 2 will be “In the Still of the Night” at 6 PM and 8 PM Thursday, November 21, and will feature the talented Sachal Vasandani, accompanied by Tamburr, Jonathan Estes on bass, and Stix Finnie on drums.

They will perform beloved Cole Porter classics such as “Night and Day,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and hits from Porter’s Tony award-winning compositions like Kiss Me Kate, Anything Goes, and Can-Can.

Vasandani’s creative approach to improvisation, and his soulful delivery, make him one of the eminent vocal improvisers of his generation.

Show No. 3 will be Shana Tucker, during a 3 PM matinee and 6 PM performance Sunday, February 23. She will bring her innovative blend of jazz, soul, acoustic pop and folk music to the stage in “Chamber Soul, Jazz & Blues.”

Known for her creativity, artistry, and clever storytelling, her unique genre — called “ChamberSoul” — captivates audiences with its harmonious blend of sonic bliss.

Accompanied by the Tamburr Trio, this special concert will feature classics like Stevie Wonder’s “Overjoyed,” and Sade’s “Kiss of Life.”

Tickets will range from $35-$50 each, and the series is made possible by generous sponsors: Planters Bank, Michael Venable State Farm Agency, J. Shrecker Jewelry, United Southern Bank, The Lacy Studio, Jennie Stuart Health and WKMS.
