Dorris Leslie Thomas, age 88, of Lexington formerly of Hopkinsville, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024, at Baptist Health in Lexington of natural causes. Graveside services will be at 1:00PM Wednesday, September 4, 2024, with Rev. Reed Shepherd officiating, at Cerulean Cemetery with burial to follow. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family with the care of their loved one.
A native of Trigg County, Thomas was born on May 10, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Huell Thomas and Asrilee Hamby (née McGee); his wife, Marilyn Bryant Thomas, his brothers, Homer, and Fred Thomas; his sisters, Dorothy Kilgour, Louise Sumner, and Pearlene McCormack.
While attending Hopkinsville High School, Thomas was known for his athleticism and excelled at basketball. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army for several years and later took a position at Hopkinsville Electric System (H.E.S.), where he worked for 31 years. He was a member of Cerulean Baptist Church.
Shortly after joining H.E.S., he married Marilyn Thomas (née Bryant). They enjoyed a happy marriage until her passing in 2015.
Survivors include his son, Jason Thomas, of Lexington, KY, and his sister, Janay Dennison of Springfield, IL.
