City Approves 1st Step In Ascend Bond Sale

The City of Hopkinsville will be issuing up to 320 million dollars in bonds on behalf of a local industry. Tuesday night, City Council reviewed a resolution preliminarily approving the bond issuance for the benefit of Ascend Elements.

Councilman Steve Keel asked attorney Mark Franklin about the bond obligations.

In other business, the City Council approved the first reading of the 2024-2025 property tax rate. The real property tax rate will be set at 20.9 cents per 100 dollars assessed value; the personal property rate will be set at 23.9 cents per 100 dollars assessed value; and the motor vehicle rate will be set at 25.1 cents per 100 dollars assessed value.

Council also passed the second reading of the Cable Service Franchise agreement with Spectrum’s parent company Charter. City Clerk Brittany Byrum read the ordinance which requires a physical office.

click to download audioMeanwhile, nearly 16.5 thousand dollars of unused ARPA funds from the Greenville Road sidewalk project was reallocated to the Pardue Park project. Council also officially passed a municipal order naming the Lafayette Road bridge as the Coach William Falls Memorial Bridge.
