37th Annual Trail Of Tears Pow Wow Rolls On In Hopkinsville

The 37th Annual Trail of Tears Pow Wow is currently underway, running through Saturday and deep into Sunday at the Trail of Tears Commemorative Park in Hopkinsville.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children aged 7-to-12, and children 6-and-under, as well as parking, free.

Two more grand entry dances and drums remain on the schedule for 6 PM Saturday and 1 PM Sunday.

Rob Daugherty is serving as emcee, while host drum is held by the Rattlesnake Mountain South Side Singers.

Arena director is Jimmy Reedy, dance judge is Thomas Rolin, singing judge is Shannon Ross, and a head woman and man is selected every session. Hoop Dancer is Peanutt Roberts, with sound provided by Hokah.

An awards presentation is planned for 4 PM Sunday, with cash prizes available in a Golden Age, Adult, Junior, Youth, Tiny Tot and Specials division, while the drum competition has a $3,000 grand prize, a $2,000 award for second place, and $1,000 allotted for third.

Gates open again at 10 AM Sunday, and families can enjoy a sensory-friendly environment until noon, one that includes free crafts and face painting for kids to enjoy.

Several 501 (c)(3) charities are set up near the Heritage Center, located at 100 Trail of Tears Drive, and fry bread, Indian tacos, buffalo burgers and more are available from local and Native food vendors.
