A Hopkinsville man was charged with fleeing from law enforcement after a traffic stop on Woodson Drive Tuesday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Elijah Thomas for a seat belt violation, and he pulled into a driveway and then fled on foot while the vehicle was still rolling.

The vehicle stopped after hitting a garage. Thomas reportedly dropped his wallet, which contained his identification card, before he fled.

Police say the information in his wallet led them to a Rose Drive home, and after getting consent to search the house, Thomas was located.

He was arrested and charged with no operator’s license, disregarding a stop sign, second-degree criminal mischief, no insurance, failure to wear seat belts, and second- and third-degree fleeing or evading police.
