The annual Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K will take over some streets on Friday and Saturday.
Rachel Sanders with Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation says some road closures for the event will begin Friday night around 5:00 and remain in place until 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
Roads that will be affected at some point during the races include:
- Main Street (starting line)
- Cox Mill Road (from North Main to Country Club; from S. Sunset Circle to Gary Lane)
- Mable Avenue and S. Sunset Circle (from Mable Avenue to Cox Mill Road)
- Gary Lane (from Cox Mill Road to Lafayette Road)
- Lafayette Road (from Gary Lane to Hopkinsville Bypass)
- Alumni Avenue
- Sterling Avenue
- Faulkner Drive
- Phelps Avenue
- Cherry Street
- 15th Street (from the Greenway Trail to Bethel Street)
- Bethel Street (Canton Street to 9th Street)
Sanders says nearly 300 people will participate in the sixth annual half marathon and 5K, presented by Planters Bank and Jennie Stuart Health. The races will begin in the 8:00 hour Saturday morning.
Both will begin on Main Street in front of the Hopkinsville Municipal Center and head south. The runners will run on the right-hand side of the roads and be accompanied by law enforcement in lead and trail vehicles. A rolling barricade will be performed by the Hopkinsville Police Department and Christian County Sheriff’s Office and route signage will be installed by the Hopkinsville City Street Department.
Traffic control officers and other volunteers will be manning intersections to stop traffic as runners cross the intersections. Motorists are asked to exercise patience for the safety of everyone, and several streets will only allow one-way traffic during the race period.
