After nearly six decades of being the sponsor and organizer of the Cadiz Christmas Parade, the Cadiz-Trigg County Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday night they will be passing the coordination responsibility to the City of Cadiz.
The announcement was made through the Chamber’s social media page and said in part that ‘creating memories for children and adults has been the best part of coordinating the parade.’
City Clerk Susan Hyde said the City was informed by former Chamber Membership Director Beth Sumner that the Chamber Board opted to go in a different direction.

Hyde says she expects the City will have plenty of help with the organization of the parade, including from Sumner who is now the executive director of the Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Commission.
click to download audioThe chamber has been the organizing agent of the parade dating back to the 1960s. Before that, the parade fell on the Trigg County Business and Professional Women’s Club and a committee usually made up of three businessmen.
Formerly held during the day and even on weekdays in the 1950s and 1960s, the Cadiz Christmas Parade will celebrate its 36th year of being a nighttime parade.
The 1954 parade was estimated to have a crowd of 800 and swelled to 8,000 within a decade.
This year’s parade will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 5:00.
