Illinois Man Scheduled for Trial in 2022 DUI Crash

An Illinois man charged with felony assault stemming from a 2022 DUI crash on I-24 was scheduled to stand trial next month but has instead seen that date vacated as attorneys work toward a resoltuon.

Nickolas Lack is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief, DUI, and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies said a car driven by Lack struck a truck that was parked on the side of the interstate near the Oak Grove/Hopkinsville exit. 53-year-old John Bright of Benton was in the back of the truck as part of a construction crew and was thrown from the vehicle.

Both Bright and Lack were flown to Nashville hospitals for treatment of injuries.

On Wednesday, Judge Andrew Self set a trial date for May 1.

Lack’s attorney, Jacob Mathis, said Lack was no longer in the military.

Lack is scheduled to be back in court on January 29.
