Mediation Could Be Near in April Shooting Case

A mediation could be close in the trial of a Hopkinsville man charged with an April shooting incident near Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Michael Thompson, the attorney for 23-year-old Stephen Bussell, told Circuit Judge Andrew Self and Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy during Wednesday’s circuit court session that a resolution in the case could come in a few more weeks.

click to download audioBussell was originally charged with seven counts of wanton endangerment, four counts of felony assault, and a single count of tampering with physical evidence. Leamy said the charges have since been downgraded to complicity after video evidence showed Bussell and a suspect police believe to be his brother firing guns from a vehicle in front of the Christian County Health Department on April 14.

Four people were reported injured in the shooting.
