The three races for the Christian County School Board were hotly contested and among the closest ones on Tuesday’s general election ballot.
The three sitting school board members will return for a four-year term following voting throughout Christian County.
Erin Westerfield was re-elected in District 1, defeating challenger David Webster with 68% of the vote. She was appointed by the school board to the seat in May following the resignation of Jeff Moore, who moved out of the district. Three others applied for the vacant seat including Webster.
In District 2, incumbent Ambrea Watkins defeated challenger Margo Pickens by 49 votes. Watkins was appointed to the seat a year ago following the resignation of Tiffany Mumford-Brame.
Pickens received 56 more votes than Watkins in early voting conducted last week.
The District 4 race featured a rematch of sorts between incumbent Rebecca Pepper and challenger Caleb Ballard. Pepper won by 194 votes and will return to the school board. Pepper received 61% of the absentee and early voting numbers while Ballard had four fewer votes cast than Pepper on election day.
Pepper was appointed to the school board in December 2022 to fill the unexpired term of Mike Walker, who resigned. She was chosen among nine applicants, including Ballard.
Pepper won a special election last November, defeating Ballard, who ran as a write-in, 890-248.
