Voter turnout in Trigg County for Tuesday’s general election mirrored the past two Presidential elections, while Christian County was down a mere 1% despite hefty early voting totals.
In Trigg County, 7,259 people voted for a turnout of 59%. The number voting was down by 147 people from 2020 but 642 more than in 2016.
For the second straight Presidential election, Trigg’s turnout was 59%. It last topped 60% in 2012.
Tuesday marked the seventh straight election Trigg County voted for the Republican Presidential candidate. 5,436 people voted for former President Donald Trump, which was 51 fewer than four years ago but 505 more than in 2016.
Vice-President Kamala Harris received 1,667 votes in Trigg County, 124 fewer than her ticket with President Joe Biden in 2020.
in Christian County, 21,794 people voted in the recent election cycle which was 2,167 fewer than in 2020. Despite early voting being double compared to 2022, turnout was 41.8%, almost a full percent lower than in 2020 and the lowest for a Presidential election in Christian County in at least the last four decades.
Voter turnout in 2016 was 44.6%.
Donald Trump received 14,332 votes which was 748 fewer than 2020 but 224 more than 2016. Christian County has favored the Republican candidate in every Presidential election dating back to Jimmy Carter in 1976.
Kamala Harris received 7,055 votes, the fewest for a Democratic Presidential candidate in Christian County since John Kerry in 2004.
That fact was magnified by a 35% voter turnout by registered Democrats in Christian County compared to 62% for Republicans. Democrats make up 45% of the registered voters in the county compared to 42% of Republicans.
