Larry E. Johnson, age 88, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. Funeral Services in his honor will be at 11:00 AM on January 15, 2025, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with burial to follow with full military honors in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Visitation will be at the funeral home that morning from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Larry was born on June 28, 1936, in Gooding, ID, the son of the late Everett L. Johnson and Anna Ellie Johnson. Larry was a highly decorated retired Army soldier who earned the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts. He was also a master parachutist. Following his military service, he was a mail carrier in Hopkinsville for over 20 years before he retired. Larry enjoyed vegetable gardening, growing roses, planting flowers, and carpentry. He was a member of Greenbriar General Baptist Church in Muhlenberg County. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Dale Johnson; and his sister, Marlene Yost.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Bettie Johnson of Hopkinsville; his son, Ross (Debbie) Johnson of Harmans, MD; his daughter Cynthia (Tim) Cravens of Fredericksburg, VA; his sister, Maxene Robison of Boise, ID; his four grandchildren; his six great-grandchildren and one more on the way due in April.
