The annual holiday Helping Hands of Trigg County food drive raised over $14,500 Thursday afternoon to help those in need.

During the two-hour broadcast on WKDZ’s Live Afternoon Drive with Bill Booth at Hancock’s Neighborhood Market, Helping Hands Chairperson K.G. Ariagno said that as food costs have increased, the need has also increased.

The organization has helped over 200 families in the last month, a 27-percent increase compared to the rest of the year.

Ariagno attributed that to the recent weather conditions.

The Helping Hands program offers canned goods, non-perishables, frozen meats, and other food through government programs like the USDA. It also partners with Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland, out of Elizabethtown.

Ariagno mentioned that they receive financial support from a wide range of community members, including their volunteers.

If you were not able to donate on Thursday, donations can always be left at Hancock’s Neighborhood Market. They can also be mailed to Helping Hands of Trigg County, P.O. Box 1874, Cadiz, KY, 42211.

The food bank is located at 21 Line Street in Cadiz and is open Mondays and Fridays (except holidays) from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
