A Hopkinsville woman was charged after a child in her care apparently overdosed on drugs Monday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say a 1-year-old child was brought to the hospital by a female claiming she was at her friend’s house when she found 29-year-old Danielle Smith passed out at the sink with the child she was giving a bath.

Police say the woman stated a piece of foil that was used for smoking fentanyl was in the sink.
The child was rushed to the hospital, given Narcan, and became responsive, but is still in critical care.

After a search of the home, Police say suspected meth and Suboxone strips were found in Smith’s belongings.

She was arrested and charged with possession of meth second offense, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal abuse, and first-degree possession of a controlled substance.
