The 2024 calendar year proved busy for the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office.

And that’s according to Sheriff Aaron Acree, who Monday night at fiscal court gave a comprehensive year-in-review to Trigg County’s magistrates and their judge-executive, Stan Humphries.

In all, his eight deputies took in more than 7,700 calls over 365 days — averaging more than 21 calls every 24 hours, for a county that at 441 square miles is among the state’s top-fifth in size.

And of those calls:

+ More than 330 were of accidents either with, or without, injury
+ 36 were calls to assist other agencies, meaning an average three per month
+ 39 were burglaries, some in progress
+ Four were Crimestoppers tips, which led to undisclosed cash rewards
+ 213 led to arrests, up from the 113 arrests made in 2023
+ 349 calls led to various citations being issued
+ And more than 350 dispatches led to civil and criminal papers being served

Acree also said of the 1,184 traffic stops made, more than 60% of them ended with verbal warnings.

And there were other tough assignments.

A blessing came to his department this past summer, he noted, with the addition of another deputy, which led to more self-initiated investigations and what he called “proactive measures, as opposed to reactive measures.”

This, he added, led to the seizure of 14 guns, more than 170 grams of methamphetamine, more than five grams of cocaine, more than two grams of heroin, and more than one gram of LSD. An increasingly large amount of cash, as well as several, several pounds of marijuana, Acree said, also came in the last 12 months.

Acree assured that Trigg County is “relatively safe,” with his deputies putting forth a strong effort, and he’s thankful Humphries, and the court, supported the idea of adding staff this past year — despite it not being an original line item when his budget was first drafted.

Other key numbers released:

+ There were 70 patrols called, one every five days
+ 18 calls were about possible fraud cases
+ 30 came from livestock complaints
+ 17 were for vandalism
+ 37 were for trespassing
+ And 37 were for special detail

To close out this work week, Acree said he and his office will face off against The Way Christian Youth Center Warriors in a basketball game Friday night at their court on Lafayette Street. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
