As of noon Monday, more than 4,000 people under Pennyrile Rural Electric remain without power in Lyon, Christian, Todd, Logan, Muhlenberg and Caldwell counties — following this weekend’s arctic blast that swept through most of the Commonwealth.

The band of outages is clear, and mostly runs all the way from the southern portion of Lyon County near Lake Barkley, all the way north of Cerulean, Hopkinsville, Elkton and Russellville.

A few small pockets below this line, running right along the region’s US 68/80 corridor, are also still impacted.

Brent Gilkey, PRECC’s vice president of member services and communications, said temperatures never got above freezing Sunday — and ice accumulations a half inch, or more, brought down some power lines and several trees.

Thankfully, he added, only 10, or fewer, electric poles were lost in the storm.

Workers pushed through Sunday night into Monday morning, and Gilkey said restoration efforts could run into Tuesday.

One of the largest outage groups is near the intersection of Todd, Logan and Muhlenberg counties — where more than 1,100 customers don’t have power between Greenville Road, Todd Deerlick Road and Lake Malone.

As of 11:30 AM Monday, Gilkey said there were more than 130 outage groups across Pennyrile’s grid.

According to HES General Manager Jeff Hurd, all of their customers were on as of 4 PM Monday, but some customers did have problems on their own sides that required electrician’s efforts. The most out at one time over the last two days was 500, and they were all tree-related incidents across the city until about 6 PM Sunday.
