James Haskins, 64, of Hopkinsville

James Mitchell “Shorty” Haskins, 64, Hopkinsville, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, in Hopkinsville, KY.

James, the son of the late Jessie Haskins, Sr. and Thelma Thompson, was born on February 17, 1960, in Christian Co. KY.

At an early age, James joined St. John Baptist Church. He was a self-employed handyman.

James enjoyed cooking, barbecuing, gardening, farming, roofing, painting, spending time with his family, working within the community, and helping the elderly. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Kathy Haskins, Adrian Thompson, David Haskins, Rodney Haskins, Melvin Haskins, and Gregory Thompson; grandparents, Pauline Smith, Lucian Smith, Willie Mae Haskins, and Sanford Haskins; step-mother, Rosetta M. Haskins.

Survivors include his children; Danekka Harris, Devron Harris, and James Shumate; Siblings, Willie Marie Haskins, Lydia Haskins, Theresa Haskins, Jessie Haskins, Willis Haskins, Bobby Acree, Jeffery Acree, and Bobby Quarles; 13 grandchildren; Devoted friend, Delene Merriweather; step-mother, Alberta Swafford; a host of nieces & nephews, cousin, 1 aunt & 1 uncle.

Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 24, 2025, at noon at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at the Cave Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will begin Friday morning at 11:00.
