A man was killed after his semi overturned in Hopkins County Tuesday morning.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to a one-vehicle wreck with possible injuries in the 18000 block of Beulah Road in Dawson Springs shortly before 9:00 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies said they found a semi and trailer overturned off the shoulder of the road that was severely damaged from the impact.
Deputies said the driver, 63-year-old David Pleasant, was unresponsive and had to be extricated from the semi due to the damage. After he was removed from the semi, authorities said Pleasant was pronounced dead at the scene by Hopkins County Coroner Dennis Mayfield.
According to deputies, an investigation determined Pleasant was traveling westbound on Beulah Road when he came to a sharp curve and veered off the shoulder of the road. The semi and trailer reportedly overturned, losing 22 pieces of mat secured by winch straps, and came to rest on top of the cab.
The Medical Center Ambulance Service, along with the Charleston and Richland Fire Departments, also responded to the scene to assist the sheriff’s office.
