Christian County’s 4-year District Facilities Plan is headed to the Kentucky Department of Education for review following a Tuesday night meeting. The School District’s Local Planning Committee heard about finances, academics, and maintenance before unanimously agreeing to send the plan on.
District Financial Director, Jessica Darnell says there are two streams of funds the state looks at for bonding capacity, capital outlay and the Facilities Support Program.
She adds they need to pay down existing bonds before undertaking any more large projects.
Assistant Superintendent, Kevin Crider adds over the next quarter century the state is projecting a decrease in population.
Hafer Architect, Eric Rang went over building by building the needs his team saw during their walkthrough in December. Things like new roofs and noting the age of structures. One of those is the space at the Stadium of Champions being used as Bluegrass Learning Center.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel notes they have plans to move those students in the coming year.
The proposed District Facilities Plan, which includes the current construction project, the new Christian County High School, totals $131,165,257 in unmet need.
