Salem Man Charged With Assaulting Ref at Lyon/Livingston Basketball Game

A Salem man was charged following an incident at a Livingston Central basketball game last week involving Lyon County High School.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White said he requested the Livingston County Sheriff's Office investigate an incident that occurred during the January 28 game in Smithland.

The incident, which was captured on video, showed a fan sitting on the Livingston Central side of the gym throw a drink bottle at a referee which also struck a Lyon County player in the foot.

The video also showed what appeared to be school administrators from Livingston Central immediately address the incident and escort the fan from the gym.

Livingston County Sheriff Bobby Davidson charged 47-year-old Douglas Walker with a first offense of assault of a sports official, which is a Class A misdemeanor. He was also charged with second-degree disorderly conduct and registered sex offender in violation of school restrictions. Walker was lodged in the McCracken County Detention Center.

Once Walker was identified, Sheriff White said he began his own investigation and determined Walker was also at the Lyon County/Livingston Central game played on Dec. 10 in Eddyville.

White said that Walker is a lifetime registrant on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry and is not allowed on Lyon County school property.

An arrest warrant was sought for Walker, who turned himself in to the Marion Police Department on Saturday and was charged with one count of registered sex offender school restrictions, which is a Class A misdemeanor.
