Grand Jury Issues Indictments for Police Assault ad Stolen Vehicles

The Christian County Grand Jury handed down a series of indictments on Friday, including cases involving police assault and stolen vehicles among other charges.

A true bill was returned on Damion Mefford, of Hopkinsville, on charges of receiving stolen property over $1,000 but under $10,000, first-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance, operating on a suspended/revoked license, driving without a license, negligence in an accident, second degree disorderly conduct, and two counts of third-degree assault of a peace officer – non-communicable bodily fluid.

The charges stem from a hit-and-run crash on Cadiz Road on November 27, 2024, that was investigated by Hopkinsville Police. Hopkinsville Police report that Mefford collided with a truck while driving a stolen vehicle and then fled on foot. After being apprehended, police said Mefford attempted to spit on an officer and headbutted the window of a police cruiser, causing it to break before being placed in the vehicle. Mefford is also accused of spitting on an office while at the hospital.

Matthew Graves, of Lawrencburg, Tennessee was indicted on a single count of theft by deception over $500 under $10,000.

The indictment alleges that on June 8, 2021, Graves traded a stolen 2007 Grizzly 4-wheeler and a 2003 Tahoe for a 2007 Chevy truck with an individual.

The grand jury indicted Makeaba Nhaway, of Clarksville, Tennessee, on charges of receiving stolen property over $10,000, possession of marijuana, no operator’s license, failure to produce insurance card, and speeding.

Nhaway is accused of possessing a stolen 2024 Hyundai Venue, valued over $10,000, on December 18, 2024. The case was investigated by the Hopkinsville Police Department.

A true bill was issued on Herbert Gibbs, of Hopkinsville, on a single charge of theft by unlawful taking over $1,000 under $10,000.

Gibbs is accused of taking a Lawimore 10 foot trailer from an individual around December 11, 2024, which was investigated by Hopkinsville Police.

Ethan King, of Clarksville, was indicted on a charge of receiving stolen property over $1,000 under $10,000 from February 15, 2023. The indictment alleges that King possessed a stolen 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, which was investigated by the Oak Grove Police Department.
