Several days of rain are in the forecast for this week with areas around and north of Princeton and Madisonville to see rain and a mix of snow and freezing rain.
As the rain moves in overnight, temperatures will drop back into the mid-30s. Meteorologist Andy Lesage says less than an inch of accumulation is expected in the northern Pennyrile but still urges caution for the Tuesday commute.
The forecast calls for a 75% and greater chance of rain on Tuesday and at least 40% between 6:00 Wednesday morning and 6:00 that night.
Lesage says this week’s rain could be heavy and cause minor flooding in some areas.
Lesage says temperatures will trend cooler for the rest of the month with the rainfall at near-normal levels.
The average temperature in January was 30 degrees, just missing one of the top 10 coolest Januarys on record. At the one-third mark of February, the average temperature is 48 degrees, which would be one of the warmest but that number is expected to drop in the coming week.
