In the wake of flooding across the Commonwealth, officials with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System have launched a disaster relief fund effort — in order to provide urgent assistance to students and families impacted by severe storms, especially in the eastern part of the state.

Donations to these funds will help provide KCTCS students with much needed resources at this time — including food, shelter and transportation.

These gifts will allow KCTCS campuses to fill the gaps in other relief programs, as students work to recover.

Big Sandy Community and Technical College, Hazard Community and Technical College and Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College are in the hardest hit communities.

In a written statement, KCTCS President Ryan Quarles said Kentuckians shine the brightest “in times of darkness” — always willing to pitch in when help is needed. He added that the state has witnessed incredible shows of faith, generosity and support, as groups work to re-establish displaced students.

According to Quarles, disaster relief funds will go directly to students, in order to help them recover and continue their learning.
