Budgeted and ultimately planned for this year, Christian County Fiscal Court and its magistrates moved forward on a major project for the Christian County Sheriff’s office Tuesday morning — accepting a bid for an evidence storage shed.
Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam said five bidders came in on the project — some valued more than $300,000.
In the end, Pembroke’s W.W. Buildings came in just above $176,000, and was the lowest, and thusly approved. The next closest, per Gilliam, was just above $205,000.
Furthermore, magistrates also approved a Kentucky Association of Counties lease on six vehicles for Sheriff Tyler DeArmond and his staff.
In other county news:
— Magistrate John Bruce commended Christian County’s Road Department efforts, following last week’s torrential rains and snow, but also brought forth a growing concern.
And chief among Bruce’s issues: Kentucky 407.
— Gilliam once again reiterated some details about a recent visit from Daviess County’s Dr. Julie Gray, a foremost authority and animal health and wellness, as well as rescue facilities and animal overpopulation.
After a tour of the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter, Gilliam said good feedback, and good ideas, have surfaced.
Shelter Director Melissa Goff noted that in January, they took in more than 360 animals, while more than 230 were adopted.
