Unexpected Pipe Repair Escalates Into Major Overhaul At Trigg County Hospital

What began as a small drainage pipe repair in Trigg County Hospital’s cafeteria has unexpectedly become a major replacement undertaking.

CEO John Sumner told the hospital board at a special Thursday afternoon meeting that they had planned to do the repairs without their approval, as it was expected to cost under $40,000. However, when contractors examined the damage, they found it was much more extensive.

The kitchen concerns were first brought to the attention of the board during the November 2024 meeting, when the hospital’s Administrative and Marketing Assistant Lori Blakeley reported that the black cast iron pipe potentially collapsed. The piping is said to be around 70 years old.

Sumner told Your News Edge, that he hopes that the project will not exceed $100,000, but all of the kitchen pipes will be replaced. The work will be completed by Industrial Piping, Inc., in Hopkinsville.

In the meantime, he shared that the Cadiz Restaurant has been filling in the gaps, while the kitchen remains closed.

In other news, Sumner told board members that a hospital bank account was recently compromised, but thankfully no funds were stolen.

Board members approved the opening of a new bank account with Planters Bank.
