Shell Salutes Todd County Agriculture During Breakfast

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathon Shell cited Cal-Maine Foods as a great example of agriculture economic development in Todd County .

Shell was the featured speaker for the Todd County Agriculture Appreciation Breakfast at the Elkton Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Friday morning.

Commissioner Shell highlighted the impact of Cal-Maine Foods near Guthrie, which is the largest producer and distributor of fresh shell eggs in the United States.

Commissioner Shell says Cal Maine Foods and other poultry companies have a large impact on the state.

He adds seeing agriculture as economic development has major potential in Kentucky.

Commissioner Shell says they recently partnered with Lt. Governor Jacquelyn Coleman to better educate school children about the impact of agriculture.

Commissioner Shell also discussed education initiatives, the Kentucky Ag Tag Program, and other agriculture issues during his remarks to more than 250 people that were on hand for the breakfast.

Todd County Chamber member and auctioneer Kelvin DeBerry with Bolinger Real Estate and Auction sold the grand champion non-commercial Kentucky country ham donated by Beth and Brian Frogue of B and B Farms to raise money for Todd County 4-H and FFA.

The ham was sold to H & R AgriPower and United Southern Bank for $8,000. The ham was donated back by H & R Agripower and United Southern and was sold a second time to Farm Credit Mid-America for $2,500.
