Many Family Dollar and Dollar Tree combination stores will change in the future following the anticipated sale of Family Dollar, which is expected to be finalized later this year.

During its fourth-quarter earnings report earlier this week, Dollar Tree Chief Operating Officer Mike Creedon shared that roughly 1,000 combo stores will be rebranded solely to Family Dollar. Creedon added that just under 60 will stay with Dollar Tree.

During that same earnings report, Fox Business reported that Dollar Tree would sell Family Dollar for $1 billion to private equity firms Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management. The deal is expected to close in 90 days with the Family Dollar business remaining headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia.

The expected sale is a fraction of the roughly $9 billion that Dollar Tree paid for Family Dollar in 2015 when it outbid Dollar General for the brand.
