A Nortonville man wrecked his car and truck in separate single-vehicle crashes Thursday night into Friday morning.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputies say 61-year-old Donald Burns was northbound at a high rate of speed on Jessie Street in a Tesla when his car struck a concrete bridge and spun out of control, rolling it onto its roof.

Burns and his passenger, 26-year-old Julius Willis, were injured in the crash, but Burns reportedly fled the area on foot, got into his truck, and headed toward Crofton.

In a separate crash, Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say they were called for a vehicle that ran off the road, traveled through a fence, and was out in a field near the Crofton exit on Pennyrile Parkway.

When law enforcement arrived, the driver, Burns, reportedly attempted to run from them but was quickly apprehended.

Burns was taken by Hopkinsville EMS to Jennie Stuart Health for treatment of his injuries.

Burns is charged in Christian County with DUI third offense, driving on a suspended license, fleeing or evading police, leaving the scene of an accident, and resisting arrest.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputies have not released a full list of charges but stated alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
