Billy Ray Phillips, 89, of Hopkinsville passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025, at his home. Born February 11, 1936, to late Norman and Myrtie (Greenfield) Phillips of Claymour, KY. He taught math at Hopkinsville High School for many years, and then he was the Supervisor of Instruction for about 15 years. He enjoyed Bible study and teaching Sunday School; during COVID-19 time he regularly taught a Bible study on Facebook Live. Billy was a wonderful “Papa” to his grandchildren, and he loved being involved in their lives.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Mary Jo Phillips; son, Jerald Hardison; and 2 brothers, Harold Phillips and Doug Phillips.
Survived by his children, Jeffery Alan (Jeanne) Phillips of Garland, TX, and Amy Mabry of Bowling Green; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Service will be held Wednesday at 1:00pm at New Barren Springs Baptist Church in Hopkinsville with Bro. Jeremy Hayes officiating. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in St. Charles. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00am until service time. Pallbearers are Jerald Hardison, Anthony Gibbs, Kevin Gibbs, Colton Gibbs, Drew Mabry and Zack Thomas.
