Three weak tornadoes have been confirmed by the National Weather Service in Paducah from last week’s severe weather outbreak.
Last Wednesday, just before 9:20 PM, the first tornado, an EF-1 touched down in northwest Weakley County, Tennessee. The tornado remained on the ground for 17.5 miles and featured a maximum width of 200 yards.
Peak winds in the tornado reached 100 MPH, causing extensive tree damage and damaging an outbuilding in Tennessee. For a brief time, the storm entered Graves County, destroying an outbuilding and uprooting trees near the intersection of Kentucky 97 and 1270.
When the storm reached Calloway County, it damaged trees and the roofs of outbuildings in rural southwest portions of the county. The tornado also overturned a couple of center-pivot irrigation systems and moved into the southwest and south sides of Murray, where it uprooted a few trees and damaged the gutters and shingles on a few homes. Near the intersection of Fourth Street and Sycamore Street, the tornado lifted the roof off of an automobile repair shop and then lifted shortly thereafter.
The second tornado, an EF-0, reached peak winds of 85 MPH and featured a maximum width of 100 yards last Thursday night. That tornado touched down on the eastern side of Murray.
The tornado damaged the roof of a commercial building and a nearby church along Kentucky 94. The tornado continued eastward along Pottertown Road and through the Pottertown community, where it damaged a couple of outbuildings and uprooted a few trees in wet soil. The tornado also downed several large tree limbs. It ended near the shoreline of Kentucky Lake in eastern Calloway County.
Both tornadoes were confirmed earlier this week, as storm surveys were delayed until the severe weather and flooding threat was over.
NWS crews also confirmed an EF-1 tornado went through portions of Madisonville and the northeast portion of Hopkins County. The tornado featured wind speeds up to 90 MPH and narrowly missed the Edge Media Group – Madisonville studio on North Main Street, the home of Power Rock 93.9 KTG and Classic County WFMW.
