Martin Eugene Johnson, 91, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in Hopkinsville.
Martin, the son of the late William Johnson and Flora Hudspett, was born on December 31, 1933, in Paducah, KY.
Martin was a member of Virginia Street Baptist Church where he was the oldest member, in the 50-Year-Member Club. He was active in the Men’s Chorus, Men’s Bible Class, Senior Choir, Laymens League, and Adopted Grandparent Program. Previously, he was a member of Corneall Baptist Church in Paducah, KY. In 1999, he retired from the Christian County Board of Education as the Head Custodian.
Martin enjoyed singing and reading the Bible. He was the organizer of the Quintet and was a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Martin Johnson, Jr., and Mark Johnson; daughter, Cynthia Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty Johnson; Children, Charletta Johnson and Melanie Johnson; Grandchildren, Termane Johnson, Tierra Johnson, Cheryl Washington, and Jasmain Black-Young; 2 sister-in-laws, Vera Johnson and Shirley Murrill Johnson; 3 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Services will be Saturday, April 19, 2025, at noon at the Virginia Street Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the West Union Cemetery.
Visitation will begin Saturday morning at 10:00.
