Officials with Christian County Public Schools announced this week that students from both Christian County High School and Hopkinsville High School have been selected as attendees for the Governor’s School for the Arts.

Sophia Wilson will represent CCHS under creative writing, while Alexander Rogers and Barrett Wittenburg will represent HHS, both for instrumental music.

In a statement from Superintendent Chris Bentzel, he noted that Governor’s School for the Arts provides an “incredible opportunity” for students to explore and showcase artistic talents through “enriching summer experiences,” and that the district takes pride in having students selected because of their hard work, creativity and commitment to achievement.

GSA is open to applicants through nine different art disciplines, and it began in 1987 as a way to support high school students of the Commonwealth who happen to excel in fine arts.

It’s a three-week long program for sophomores and juniors, and it’s valued at nearly $4,000 per student. However, there is no cost to the participants for the selection.
