Scouting for Food – Scouts BSA
November 13, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
On Saturday, November 13th, cubscouts and boyscouts will be placing bags and flyers on doors in order to collect non-perishable food items on Saturday, Novemver 20th to help restock the food bank of Helping Hands. Anyone wishing to donate items can drop them off at the Cadiz United Methodist Church on Lakota Drive. As the winter months and holidays approach, many in our community need food assistance. Our Scouting community is meeting this need! Each year in the month of November our Scouting families participate in Scouting for Food, a Good Turn Project. Our Scouts collected over 150,000 lbs of food for local food pantries, shelters and kitchens in 2020.
Scouting for Food takes place on two consecutive Saturdays, November 13 and November 20. On the first weekend, Scouts distribute sticky flyers to let their neighbors know about the opportunity to leave nonperishable food items out. On the second weekend, Scouts revisit those houses to pick up bags full of canned food, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, juice, toilet paper, paper towels and other nonperishable items.
The food is then delivered to local food banks, who in turn give the food/items out to families in need throughout the council’s borders.
Good Turn for America is a long-term effort by the Lincoln Heritage Council, Boy Scouts of America to encourage and record good turn projects completed by Scouts in our communities.
