Police Collect Over 1100 Lbs of Old And Unused Medicine

Over 11-hundred pounds of old and unused prescription medications have been collected at drop boxes at three Clarksville locations for 2017. Police spokesman Jim Knoll says the collection effort is to help reduce the potential for medicine abuse and the negative impact on the environment by improper disposal.

Knoll indicates the acceptable items for disposal include: Prescription medications; All over the counter meds; Pet medications; Medicated ointment, lotions or drops; Liquid medications in leak proof containers; Inhalers; And pills in any packaging, including glass, plastic container, baggie or foil.

Hs say they will not accept illegal drugs or narcotics, needles or syringes with needles, blood sugar equipment, thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, and personal care products such as shampoos, lotions, etc.

According to Knoll, the Clarksville Police Department has set up disposal drop boxes at three locations: 135 Commerce Street, 211 Cunningham Lane, and 1584 Vista Lane.

He says you should keep medications in the original container if possible and cross out your name and address, but do not cross out the name of the medication.
