Christian Fiscal Court, at their meeting Tuesday, laid the ground work to begin repairs, primarily to the roof of the Alhambra Theatre. Magistrates approved a $30,000 contract with Chris Spurr to provide architectural services and oversee the bid process.
There will be additional improvements inside the theatre. Pennyroyal Arts Council Director, Margaret Primm says there will renovations made to the upstairs portion of the theatre.
Primm says additional improvements will include an elevator.
Much of the funding is from the transient room tax. The Alhambra will be 90 years old on May 28. That is Memorial Day and Primm says there will be a celebration with the opportunity for the community to help with some additional fund raising.
The final Live at the Alhambra series will be this Saturday night with a performance by the Fisk Jubilee Singers. Several other events are scheduled for the next couple of months. The Alhambra will go dark on April 23 to allow for the improvements to be made.
