Not only is today Valentine's Day, this day also marks National Donor Day and recognizes the heart on our driver's license as a true symbol of love and compassion. Christian County Circuit Court Clerk Gary Haddock says Donor Day brings attention to the mission of organ donation to remember loved ones who have given the gift of donation, have received a donation, are currently waiting on a life-saving transplant, or did not receive an organ in time. The little blue heart on the Kentucky Driver's License is a true symbol of hope and commitment to give the greatest gift, the gift of life.
In 2017, Haddock says Kentucky reached the second highest number of lives saved through organ transplantation ever — 108 heroic organ donors and families resulting in 361 organs recovered and transplanted. Also, 330 tissue donors healed thousands of lives.
Every Kentuckian, regardless of age or medical history, can register as an organ donor. All you have to do is say "Yes" when you renew your driver's license at your Circuit Clerk's Office.
