If you have a political or advertising sign illegally placed on state right-of-way, state highway crews will be removing them between now and May. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says crews have fielded complaint calls and have added the removal of illegally placed signs on their list of maintenance activities.
He notes any sign, regardless of its purpose, is not allowed to be placed on state right-of-way unless otherwise permitted.
Todd says some people putting up signs do not have a good concept of where the state right of way is located.
Homeowners in urban areas with curb and gutter should keep signs behind sidewalks.
According to Todd, the signs also create a number of hazards.
Todd says signs that are removed will be held for ten working days at the local state highway maintenance facility and may be picked up at those locations by a representative of the candidate or business with proper identification. Unclaimed signs will be discarded after ten days.
Highway crews will be removing illegal campaign signs and other advertising until the May 22 primary election.
