Prescribed burns are planned at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area this month. LBL spokesman Chris Joyner says a prescribed burn is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, if conditions are right.
He notes prescribed burns are tentatively scheduled Wednesday for approximately 300 acres at the Elk & Bison Prairie and more than 100 acres in the southern portions of LBL, but again it depends on the weather conditions.
Joyner says the impact from the prescribed burn will be columns of smoke, but it should not create any hazards.
LBL officials say wildfire is a natural occurrence that benefits plants and animals while reducing the risk of large wildfires. Prescribed burns in March will include openlands identified for prescribed fire wildlife and ecosystem management that were not burned in March of last year.
