Motorists traveling the Breathitt-Pennyrile Parkway in Christian and Hopkins counties need to be aware the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to initiate work for a major concrete rehabilitation project beginning Monday, March 19. Spokesman Keith Todd says this runs along the Pennyrile Parkway from the KY 2642 Overpass near the 16.5 milepoint and extending a distance of more than 13 miles northward to near the U.S. 41 Ramp Overpass near milepoint 29.
Initial work, according to Todd, will involve construction of median crossovers to allow the contractor to move to two-way traffic along about a six mile section of the work zone starting sometime in April. The work zone will be divided into about six phases spread over about 18 months.
Todd reminds motorists that caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and other personnel are close to the road near traffic flow.
Hall Contracting of KY, Inc., is the prime contractor on this $43.2 million rehab project, which has a target completion date of August 31, 2019.
