One person was injured in a two vehicle rear-end crash on Skyline Drive Monday afternoon. Hopkinsville Police report the wreck occurred at the intersection with Marie Drive at 4:18pm when 59-year old Michele Ruppert of Hopkinsville stated she was traveling eastbound on Skyline Drive and turned on her blinker to turn onto Marie Avenue when her car was hit in the rear by a vehicle driven by 31-year old Mary Essler of Hopkinsville. The impact reportedly caused Ruppert’s vehicle to spin around.
Police say Essler said she was receiving a call on her cell phone and looked down at it and when she looked up she noticed the rear end of the car and could not slow down in time to avoid a collision. A witness reportedly told officers she believed Essler was on the phone and that is the reason the crash happened.
Police report Ruppert complained of chest and abdomen pains and was transported by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.
