Authorities say a Princeton woman was charged with a DUI after crashing a vehicle into a utility pole and several trash bins Tuesday, injuring herself and a child.

Princeton Police Chief Chris King reports officers responded to the collision of Varmint Trace Road just before 12:30 Tuesday afternoon. He says the van, driven by 36-year old Christina Davis crossed the opposite lane of travel, left the roadway and hit a utility pole, a speed limit sign, several trash receptacles and then came to rest on the front steps of a residence in the 500 block of Varmint Trace.

The report says Davis told officers she had fallen asleep while driving. She reportedly failed field sobriety tests at the scene.

Davis and a 3-year old child, Elizabeth Dunbar, were transported by ambulance to Caldwell County Medical Center. Upon on her release, Chief King says Davis was arrested and charged with DUI, No Insurance, Failure to Use child Restraint and 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment.

Officers were assisted at the scene by Princeton Fire and the Princeton Electric Plant Board.
