Cadiz Police say a female suspect who allegedly stole a cell phone from a convenience store customer earlier this week has been identified and will be facing a theft charge.

Officer Matt Riddle tells the News Edge the woman was identified as Debbie Parker of Cadiz. He says he received several calls from the public identifying Parker within five minutes of posting snapshots of her from the store’s surveillance video on social media.

Officer Riddle says a child was in Casey’s General Store with his grandmother Wednesday morning and accidentally left the cell phone next to the credit card machine at the checkout counter. He adds the surveillance video shows the cell phone was still on the counter after another customer came up and paid for his items and exited the store. He says then the suspect, identified as Parker, was seen on the video coming up to the counter, sliding the cell phone into her purse on her left arm and leaving the store with it.

After Parker was identified by citizens, Officer Riddle says he went and interviewed her and then took possession of the cell phone and returned it back to the owner.

When his investigation is complete, according to Officer Riddle, he will subpoena Parker to court. He says she will be charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $500, because the cell phone is valued at $900.
