Officials in Owensboro say water service could return sometime late Tuesday following a massive water line break early Monday. The break prompted a State of Emergency for all of Daviess County.

The break turned out to be two breaks, one in a 20 inch line, another in a 24 inch line, and resulted in street flooding and evacuations near the site of the break, in the 2000 block of East 4th Street. Several streets around the site of the break had to be closed Monday due to significant street flooding.

The State of Emergency was issued Monday morning around 10:30. The water line not only affected customers in Daviess County, but Hancock County and Ohio County as well.

In the aftermath of the break, most stores in the Owensboro area reported running out of bottled water early Monday afternoon, with efforts then made later in the day to get more bottled water into the county.

While the water service in Daviess County is expected to resume sometime Tuesday afternoon, a Boil Water Advisory is expected to remain in place for an undetermined amount of time.
