Trigg County Schools Release 17-18 Assessment Results

Trigg County Public Schools have released their 2017-18 assessment results. Superintendent Travis Hamby tells the News Edge the way the state of Kentucky calculates results has changed.

Elementary and middle school students receive scores on three indicators: proficiency which includes student performance in reading and math; separate academic indicator which is student performance in science, social studies, and writing; and growth in reading and math.

High school students receive scores based on proficiency which includes student performance in reading and math on the ACT test; transition readiness which is the percentage of graduates who have a high school diploma and demonstrate academic or career readiness; and the graduation rate which is the average of the 4 and year graduation rates.

Kentucky is identifying schools as either Comprehensive Support and Improvement, Targeted Support and Improvement, or other. Trigg County Middle and Trigg County High School ranked as Targeted Support and Improvement which means each school has one or more low-performing student groups within the school. Trigg County Middle School had two low-performing student groups which included African-American and disabled students. Trigg County High School’s low-performing group was disabled students.

Superintendent Hamby says they have meetings planned in the next couple of weeks to discuss what the district plans to do in the future.

He adds they will ensure structures are in place for teacher teams to review various assessment data to determine the individual needs of students. Also, make sure students receive timely, differentiated support based on their learning needs. They will also ensure research-based instructional practices to personalize learning for all students are being implemented in the classroom, and refine curriculum and assessments to ensure multiple authentic opportunities for students to apply their knowledge.
