A Hopkinsville man is facing several charges after he ran from police Wednesday afternoon.
Hopkinsville Police responded to a call of a theft that had just occurred in the area of West 15th Street. Officers reportedly found 30-year old Jayaune Johnson who matched the description of the suspect turning on the trail and when he saw police he ran. Johnson was apprehended in the area of Richard Street and the Rails Trails, where police say he resisted arrest.
Johnson was charged with theft by unlawful taking under $500 from an auto, fleeing from police on foot, resisting arrest and tampering with physical evidence. He was lodged in the Christian County Jail.
Earlier in the day Wednesday, police say Johnson was also cited to court for trafficking a controlled substance after they found a plastic baggie of Xanax pills he was trying to sell to customers at Max Fuel on West 7th Street.
