Just in time for the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend, a westbound work zone lane restriction on Interstate 24 near the Kentucky-Tennessee State line will be taken down.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says the contract was using a long-reach track hoe to clear brush along the westbound right of way as part of ongoing maintenance work. However, he adds due to heavy holiday traffic the contractor is halting work early.
The crew had planned to pull down the westbound work zone near the 90 mm in Kentucky after lunch Wednesday, but westbound I-24 traffic had backed up Wednesday morning for about five miles near Clarksville Exit 4 in Tennessee.
As a reminder, Todd says a work zone lane restriction on I-24 at the 30-mile marker on the Tennessee River Bridge near Calvert City will have to remain up during the busy holiday driving period. Motorists should consider an alternate route via US 62 and KY 453 or US 68 and Interstate 69 to avoid backups that are likely at this site during peak travel periods.
