Three North Carolina men are behind bars facing charges after authorities say they tried to use counterfeit money to purchase items at Kuttawa businesses Monday afternoon.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports they received the complaint shortly after 3:00 p.m. and deputies responded to the area and found a Jeep matching the description of the suspects’ vehicle in a restaurant parking lot. Deputies detained two males initially; one of which was under the influence of drugs and one of which possessed marijuana.
Upon further investigation, deputies indicate a third suspect was in a nearby business attempting to pass a $100 counterfeit bill but destroyed it before police arrived on the scene. The three suspects reportedly tried to use the fake money at a restaurant, nearby motel and gas station but were unsuccessful.
The sheriff’s office reports deputies also found additional marijuana, numerous drug items, cash believed to be proceeds from the counterfeit money’s use, and an additional counterfeit $100 bill from the suspects.
26-year old Eugene Boateng, 23-year old Leernest Wells, and 22-year old Jaquan Jamison, all of Charlotte, were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Boateng and Wells were also charged with second-degree criminal possession of forged instrument and other offenses. Jamison faces an additional charge of Public Intoxication.
All three men were lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
