A Hopkinsville man was arrested on a warrant for fleeing and evading police, criminal abuse and abandonment of a minor Monday afternoon.
According to a Hopkinsville Police report, on October 14th 34-year-old Melvin Wilcox fled from police after they responded to a call of a woman yelling for help.
Wilcox reportedly kicked the mother of his child in the face and when police arrived he fled at speeds of over 80 MPH before passing a vehicle in a no passing zone on Glass Avenue while running a red light along with stop signs in the area as he fled from police.
The chase stopped when he wrecked into a wood line and fled on foot, according to the report, he left his 8-year-old child as he fled.
The child was trapped in the vehicle between the passenger seat and the body of the truck. The child had to be extracted from the vehicle by Hopkinsville Fire Department.
The child was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for lacerations to his body, possible sprained right knee and a busted lip.
