Six surviving original members of the Trigg County Historical and Preservation Society were honored during the February meeting of the organization Tuesday afternoon.
President Bob Brame says the historical society was formed in 1981.

Brame adds there were several accomplishments during the first years of the organization.

Another thing the society did was compile a two-volume book collection of Trigg County history. The books came out approximately 100 years after a history book that was put together by William Henry Perrin in 1886.
Original members John Hall, Nell and Tom Vinson, and Stan White were presented a plaque by vice-president David Shore to commemorate their original service to the organization. Virginia Alexander and Kenneth Kennedy were unable to attend, but will still receive plaques.
One thing Tom Vinson remembers about the early historical society was a debate on whether to include just county history or to also include family history in the 1986 books.

Vinson adds by adding the family history, they were able to sell numerous copies.
The historical society is continuing to work on collecting and preserving the county’s history in 2019. According to Brame, they are about to finish a grant to hopefully receive some funds to finish the Trigg County Historical and Preservation Society’s Transportation Museum.

Anyone wishing to join the organization can call Brame at (270) 350-1890 or stop by their next business meeting on Tuesday afternoon, March 5 beginning at 4:00. The society meets at 39 Jefferson Street directly behind the Trigg County Justice Center. Brame hopes to gain new members so the organization can continue to live on.
