Winter Storm Causes Some Power Outages

A winter weather advisory was upgraded to a winter storm warning Friday night for western Kentucky as a mixture of freezing rain and sleet moved across the area overnight. The winter storm warning issued for the area expired at 3:00 Saturday morning.

Freezing rain caused some power outages in Trigg County overnight. Pennyrile Electric reported over 1,100 customers were without power at the peak of the outage. Power has been restored to some of those customers, but over 700 were still without power in the Canton area through mid-morning along with some scattered outages throughout the county.

Hopkinsville-Christian County ECC tells the News Edge they have had no reports of wrecks Saturday morning due to road conditions. They say roads in Hopkinsville and in the county are slick.

Trigg County Dispatch tells us bridges and overpasses are icy and there are some slick spots on main roads throughout the county. Secondary roads have a coating of ice and are slippery. As of 5:30 Saturday morning, Trigg Dispatch had a report of a non-injury wreck on Interstate 24 and had received reports of several trees down across the county.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says the icy conditions also caused some downed power lines in Marshall County near Kentucky Dam Village State Park as well as downed power lines on KY 453/Dover Road in Livingston County.
